Billy
Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania

Billy works at Pompeii Street Soap Company: "Billy was born in a condemned house in June 2006 with 90 other cats and was part of a major rescue project to save the cats from the home before they were taken to the local shelter, where they would have been euthanized. Like many of the other kitties from the condemned house, Billy was afraid of people and was never able to experience love and human companionship. We held  multiple adopt-a-thons and were able to find many good homes for the cats. Because we were unable to find a home for him, he was then cared for by a no-kill shelter (Lycoming Animal Protection Society aka L.A.P.S. website: www.lapsshelter.org) for two years. He had a great home there but still did not gain confidence with humans. He would have been a 'lifer' in the shelter. They recently moved their entire shelter into a smaller facility, which I thought was a good time to adopt Billy to be my office companion. I still can't pet him but much progress has been made. He plays with me when I have good toys and sits near me while I do office work for the soap company. He will most likely be in training for many more months before he can roam outside of the office. I work by myself all day and he has been a great companion. Billy said he doesn't understand his job yet, but he said the benefits are good and he plans to stick with it. He especially likes having his own sofa and enormous window sills to sit in." Story and picture sent in by Jessica Grill.
