Cats Livin is a store in Tokyo that sells cat merchandise (toys and treats for cats, as well as items for people). They also have an area behind the main part of the store where you can go to meet lots of kitties. (A lot of people have small apartments in Tokyo, and can't have cats, so they can always come here to get their kitty fix). There are always at least 18 cats there, in a simulated house environment with different rooms to lounge in. You can pay your ¥1200 (about $10.00) and go in to spend all day with the kitties if you like. They have toys in which to play with the kitties, and every once in a while they hand out treats in little baggies that you can feed to your favorite feline friend. During the course of a day, they will take out some kitties and bring new ones in. There are some cages around the rooms that hold purebred cats like a Sphynx, Persians, Siamese, and Abyssinians. I'm not sure if these kitties are ever brought out, but I know they had an American Curl out on the table when we got there, and we were able to pet it.
The cats seem to do okay for the most part, living with each other. Every once in awhile you will hear a hiss or yowl when they find their territory has been overtaken by an interloper, but for the most part, they're pretty placid. Some are lap cats, some prefer to watch you from a distance, but they all love the treats. If anyone from Cats Livin wants to write to me with the kitties' names, I will be glad to post them.
